I am looking for a retailer in the Ventura, Los Angeles or San Diego County area that sells Master Strip. I have spoken to McBride Company several times for recommendations but have had no success. The first reference was a distributor in Thousand Oaks, but no one ever answers that phone and their is no machine on which to leave a message. The next reference was ShilPark Paint Co. They have 2 locations in LA and Orange County. When I called the Van Nuys location, I was told they don't carry it. The Shilpark Paint website doesn't list it on their product listing. I've sent them an e-mail to see if their stock varies from location to location, perhaps Van Nuys doesn't carry it and another store does. I am growing frustrated. As those of you who have removed 80 years of paint know, there is only so much that a heat gun can do. Everyone says this is the best product so I'd like to try it. As an alternative, does anyone know of an eco-safe paint remover that boasts much success? I'm willing to use the resperator if I have to, but if I could find a product that is non-toxic and achieves essentially the same results, I'd be in Bungalow Heaven!! Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide!

Hi Susan.

I'm sorry you are having trouble locating Master Strip. I have seen it at our local paint store, Shilpark, located on Vermont Ave (close to downtown LA and University of Southern California). The address is 1640 S. Vermont Ave, ph: 323.732.7093. They had the large 5 lb. drums of it.

I haven't been over there in a while so I don't know if it is currently in stock. I'd call first and be sure to give them a good description of what you are looking for and what the product does (paint stripping). So, much of it depends on who you end up speaking with, sometimes they are busy and may not want to check on the floor. Shilpark should also be able to order it in for you if they don't have the product in stock.

I have tried several brands of eco-friendly remover but have not been very impressed. It doesn't seem like the eco-friendly stuff is comparable (yet).

Hello Heather! My name is Jen and my husband is Joe. We have gotten loads of inspiration from your site. In December we purchased a 1912 craftsman bungalow in Evansville, Indiana. We have had great fun researching bungalow style and restoring the house to it's former glory. Granted, we don't have quite the task ahead of us that you two did, but we are having a good time and that's all that matters!

The exterior of one of the houses on your Flickr photos looks very similar to my house. It is the 5th picture down in the right column on page 1, identified as "Bungalow Exterior, 1908 plan book (Wilson)". My house, built in Whittier, CA in 1909, has a shed dormer instead of a gable, and the windows are a different style, but the columns, piers, rafter tails and general arrangement are really close. Do you have any more information on this Henry Wilson plan? Thanks for posting all this wonderful information.
