Backyard Patio
We have gotten a little further in laying our flagstone patio.
We definitely under estimated how much rock we would need though. We had enough flagstone to cover a little over half the space.

Love the video! We recently put in flagstone also. You guys are much faster than we were. :) We purchased the amount estimated by the guy at the yard and had a flat too much. Luckily we had a path and an area in front of our shed that we could use it on.
We used DG (decomposed granite) instead of sand. It did pack down well but it is bit too gravelly. We are planning to wait awhile then add sand in a year or so possibly mixed with some cement so that it stays put better. Our stone was too hard to really cut or break so we have some pretty large spaces in-between the stones.

I've been lurking on your site for quite a while and I must say I LOVE IT! We have a Chicago-style bungalow built in 1910. The only difference between our bungalow and a Chicago bungalow is the fact that our bungalow has a wood frame and in order to be classified as a true Chicago bungalow, it must be brick! Either way, we're in the process of laying a flagstone patio in our backyard as well. Your videos have helped us create our plan of attack! Thanks for the tips and tricks! Heidi

We just purchased a 1904 house in a historical district which we will restore. We had thought about contacting a show on DYI or HGTV. However, we are so busy, that it may distract us more than anything. Is it just airtime for our smiling faces or do they help you somehow on your project?

Hi JR and Zonia. Congrats on your new house!
We were on a show for the DIY network, as were some of our neighbors. They definately helped us do a project. We ended up with a new screen door.
In our experience, we discussed a list of what projects we wanted to do on our house. The show choose which project we would do and what form that project would take. As long as you are able to let go and are ok with what they decide to do in your house, it will be a fun experience for you. If you are someone who is a bit of a control freak, like I am, it might not be that enjoyable for you.
I don't regret doing the show. No, I didn't completely enjoy the whole experience, but I am happy with the end result - our screen door.
