5 Things You Don't Know About Me Game
I have been tagged to reveal 5 things you "probably" don't know about me. I tend to be one of those people who over share, so depending on how well you know me, there probably isn't much you don't already know.
1) My parents married young, separated when I was 2 years old and were eventually divorced when I was 4. They went on to marry other people and have other children, lots of other children. I am the oldest of 4 brothers and 1 sister. I am 13 years older than 3 of my siblings and 17 years older than my youngest brother.
When he was a baby, I refused to have anything to do with my youngest brother while in public because he has red hair. I also have red hair and I didn't want people to think I was a teenage mother.
Maybe it is because I am so much older or from a different biological parent, but I have always felt a little "other than" or seperate/different from my siblings.
2. I am the carrier of a genetic chromosomal defect from my paternal grandfather's side of the family. The chromosomal abnormality came to light when a relative was having trouble starting a family.
The doctor told me that because I am a woman and born with a set number of eggs, that the consequences of being a carrier are a little higher than for a man. I have a slightly higher chance of having a miscarriage or even giving birth to a severely deformed child. If I were to get pregnant, I have a 50% chance of having a miscarriage. The doctor said if I ever wanted to have a child that I should start trying no later than age 26. Well, that ship has definitely sailed.
I was 18 years old when I learned this information and it really didn't have an impact on me at the time. I was more worried about my friends and getting ready to go to college. I feel so thankful that neither David or I are one of those people who desperately want to have children. But, as I get older I sometimes think about having a family of our own.
3. I am pretty good about keeping in touch with friends. of course, there is always room for improvement. I still talk regularly with my 5 good friends from high school and my best friend from college.
I graduated from high school in Kansas City, Mo. I think it was my friend Dawn who coined our little group of friends "The Pretty Committee" way back when we were all still really young. We had a Pretty Committee reunion in New York City last week.

4. When ever I go out of town David acts really pitiful. He says things like he can't sleep when I am not there and that the house just isn't the same without me around. That is incredibly sweet and it makes me feel well loved, but there is this part of me that wonders if he is secretly kicking back in his underwear, drinking beer, eating chicken wings, watching sports while smoking a cigar and playing poker.
5. Last month my dad had my inheritance shipped out to LA. I am now the proud owner of a 1972 gold Buick LeSabre convertible. I have driven the car once but David has mostly taken it over. I think it brings out his inner pimp.
While in college, my friend Amy Jo and I were driving the car when the convertible top caught on fire. My Dad and I got in a huge fight over it. So, I told him, "Fine. That's the car I want when you die because I've had the most grief over it!"

I'm totally cracking up about your comments about your husband. My partner does the same thing - acts very pitiful when I'm gone, tells me over and over how much I'm missed and how terrible it is. It's sweet and makes me feel good, but I've also come home from trips to find evidence of a cigarette smoked in the house (we have an outside-only policy), and I know that the TV goes into marathon shoot'm-up action movies and gruesome reality shows, things I won't watch especially in bed at night before going to sleep.

Hello there,
I ran across you site while doing research on bungalow style kitchens. We are going to build a house this year and I need some ideas.
Great site. I too live in a great old home (1919 Farmhouse) and I have been in contact with the lady who was born here in 1920.
Take care.

I just found your website and what you have done is positively wonderful! Congratulations! I'm going to have to put you in my favorites, so I can come back. Jan

Found your blog awhile ago and check back every so often. It's very entertaining. We have a 1917 Arts & Crafts style bungalow covered in stucco and soon, a lovely new roof (ugh). I went to school in KC, too. Where did you graduate?

The buick is actually a 1971 and the Camero that dad was talking about was made in 1979. Love from your 3 out of your 5 younger siblings. =)

Wow, neither of my sisters can get this right. The buford is a 1971, but the Camero is of course the iconic 1969.

Hi guys! Yeah, the inability to tell what year a car was manufactured must be due to my chromosomal defect. Not quite sure what SJF's excuse is? :)

My DH always tells me that the house is "cavernous" without me. (We've been married over 20 years, so "I missed you" is no longer in his vocabulary, I guess.) But between you and me, I think that the minute I leave the house, he says "YES!!! Four days without her incessant talking!"
