If I could have one “do over” with our bathroom it would be to have gone with a light gray grout color on the marble floors instead of bright white. I am finding it very challenging to keep the grout clean! My mom has light gray grout on her bathroom floor and it is holding up beautifully. Live and learn.

How can my beautiful floors looks so gross, disgusting, and yucky!?
So, I was super excited when I saw a tip for cleaning grout lines on Pinterest. It is so easy. Here it is: You take a Clorox bleach pen and run it over the grout lines, let it set for at least 4 hours (I left it over night) and then wipe it up with warm water and a sponge or old wash cloth. That’s it!
Using the Clorox pen makes it really easy to follow the grout lines. You just kind-of get into a groove. I did the whole floor in 10 minutes…one of the benefits of having a small bathroom. I put the bleach on pretty thick and used a whole pen on our floor.
The next morning my floors looked new again. The bottom line…
this is one tip that really works!

I wonder if sealing your grout would help prevent future discolouration?
Anyway, I always love a great before and after!
Resealing the grout is a great suggestion! I do need to do that. Thanks.
Hi I stumbled on your blog. Very nice. I had the same problem with my grout and used to use bleach to clean it. Bleach will make your grout dry out so much it will start to crack over time. And it is also very toxic.
I use a product called CLR – it works perfectly. Not sure if it is available in the US, but I would think so.
What a great tip about using the bleach pen! We are going with bright white grout along with our white subway tile for our bathroom. I *hope* it stays cleaner being on a wall rather than a floor…but I have my doubts. Thankfully our floor tile is dark and we’re going to go with a dark grey grout there.
The white grout on our walls (and on my Mom’s walls) has stayed white. We have had no problems there.

AAAHHH!!!! On a Sunday when I was sick in bed, I discovered your website and read through the whole renovation! I cried when Lulu died, I also had a dog named Lulu growing up, and agonized over all the color choice decisions you made! Now I’m at the end of your blog, left wondering what has happened??!! Good luck with your continued renovations, I will definitely be tuning in to see what you have done!
WOW! Great advice on cleaning up grout! I am going to have to try this at home myself. Thanks for sharing!
Great tip. Bleach pens work well, Another good suggestion is to use a grout colorant on your lines. These will help you in two different ways, first of all you can make the grout lines a little darker and secondly it will also work as a grout sealer and keep your grout cleaner in the future.
Great tip! I have never thought to use bleach before. i have used soft scrub and dry erase but it didn’t work as well as what I see in your pictures. Thanks for sharing. I will let you know if it worked out.
Excellent tip, it is indeed difficult to keep bathroom grout looking clean (especially white) and cleaning the grout can be a great way to uplift the whole appearance of the tiles. Thanks for sharing.
@ Heather, Is there a particular type of grout sealer that you would recommend?
