We are officially halfway done restoring the house. We have unofficially been on a break from working on the house for the past 3 years. The kitchen and main bathroom haven’t been upgraded since we bought the house. They are still awful!
List of projects and rooms left to be restored:
drum roll please…
Kitchen
Bathroom
2 Upstairs Bedrooms
Sleeping Porch
Back steps and stone patio
Put in a back yard and landscaping
Garage
New Fence
Hopefully, we will get either the bathroom or kitchen started and finished in 2009. Get ready for lots of inspirational kitchen and bathroom photos in the mean time. Planning is the fun part!

My husband and I bought our 1917 bungalow in September 2006. After returning from the closing attorney my husband was researching house renovations and came across your blog and showed me the great work you guys had done. The next two weeks I was hooked, reading your blog from start to finish, laughing and crying with you and your experiences, and wondering what the road ahead of us would bring for us and our first home. That’s when I knew we had to start our own blog to track our progress so that 10 years from now we can look back and see how much we’ve accomplished. I have often come back to get re-inspired by your finished rooms, but was sad to see the blog entries were dwindling. I was even more saddened to see when posts started to appear about questioning your purchase choice and all the work you have put into it. I’m glad to see that after an extended break you seem to be getting new energy and inspiration to continue your work. I know you guys will do an amazing job! And I can’t wait to read about the day you will no longer need to brush your teeth in the bathtub.

What kind of wood subflooring did you find? Is it worth using or salvaging?
My goal would be to one day find and restore a bungalow in central California (1900-1915).

All the floors in our house are Douglas fir except for the public rooms (living room, dining room and den) which are red oak. The Douglas fir floors are in pretty good shape. The red oak floors have suffered from zealous over sanding through out the years and as a result, they aren’t holding up. They will need to be replaced in the next 5 years.

Planning is definitely the fun part. I am so past the days when working on our house was fun. I just want it to be finished and yet, I’m so exhausted and overwhelmed by it all that I don’t want to lift a finger. Some days I think we should move somewhere lower maintenance, but I can’t ever find anywhere I love more than our house. Lose/lose situation! I applaud you for jumping back into the renovation whirlwind – you go, girl!

Am I reading my own post?? It sounds like it! We have a 1927 bungalow that we are restoring and are at least 1/2 way done…and the hiatus we went on before last Xmas after living here for 2 years now is just coming to an end!? AND, our bathroom and kitchen are still in the post-gut stage, yet to be finished. I WILL NOT live like this for 5 more years though, so here’s to beautifully finishing large projects with love! Cheers!

My dad, Ray Catudal, grew up in your house. I saw the home information on 1912 Bungalow quite a while ago. My sister found a photo of our Dad and Uncle as toddlers in front of the house. Would you like to see it for any reason? Hope the renovations are coming along. What is the address there? I would love to drive by and see it!

Hi Cathy. I sent you a private message to your email account. If you would like to come inside the house and look around please let me know.
Best.

I love your site! You just have not updated any recent progress. I am wondering if any work has been done to the bathroom or kitchen, and will we be seeing pictures soon?
