Taking A Fresh Look at Bungalow Living Rooms

What can you learn by looking to the past?

Living Spaces,

Looking at these historic photos and illustrations from the early 1900’s, I find it interesting that so many of the living rooms feature a table or desk in the middle of the room. This was the era before coffee tables were popular.

Interesting. I think sofa’s became popular with the “I Love Lucy” TV show. Thank you for the post.

Interesting observation. My grandmother’s living room prominently featured a desk, as well as a sofa, arm chairs, and coffee table. It was decorated in a California 1920s style, a smaller and more ramshackle variation on the rooms in English estate houses.

Her living room was exactly like the one here captioned “Desk in the Center of the Room.” The desk was to the left; the standard sofa grouping faced the fireplace.
